Street chaplains
R.O.C.K. Street Chaplains have worked on the streets of Dundee since 2000 and it remains the biggest part of out ministry. We are an integral part of Dundee's nightlife and connect with those out clubbing and working in the city's night-time economy.
We now have several other Street Chaplain teams in Scotland and Northern Ireland modelled on Dundee Chaplains. Our partners
We work closely with many key statutory and non-statutory agencies to ensure Dundee city centre is a safe place to socialise and work in. Among others aforementioned, this includes, Police Scotland, Dundee's Best Bar None and pubs and clubs. Our aim We aim to make a contribution to the safety and well-being of people on the streets by offering CARE and compassion as well as practical support such as flip-flops, alarms, first-aid, and ponchos. We primarily hand out lollies and leaflets and this often acts as a first point of contact in chatting to people, see if they’re doing ok, and share our faith if people want to know why we care about them. Over the years Street Chaplains have developed a close relationship with the local people. The teams are all Christians from local churches and are happy to chat more about the Christian faith and the reality of a God who loves people. Check out where and when our street teams operate. |
Sub-teams
Our Dundee team operates every weekend, 12 months a year. Depending on numbers, we divide our Street Chaplains team into sub-teams to offer specific support to the different demographics: Street team - The main one is our street team which patrol the city centre looking out for anyone who may be isolated and vulnerable. We are connected to the DUNCAN radio system and this enables our partner agencies to call upon our assistance if needed, and vice versa. Our tasks are generally quite varied, but mostly involve working with the 18-30s. Homeless team – We have a dedicated team which offer support to anyone in a state of homelessness. This usually entails giving a hot drink to those begging on street corners. Every winter we collect hats, gloves, socks, and coats to hand out to the homeless. Get in touch if you’d like to donate to this appeal. Club Chaplains – Our club team go to the local clubs and have access to enter some clubs to offer assistance inside. While Club Chaplains is its own ministry, they are still a part of our Dundee night team and their work often crosses over with that of Street Chaplains. Safe Zone Bus team– ROCK SC were a founding member of the SZB. Generally we have one street chaplain who sits on the Safe Zone Bus to offer spiritual and emotional support to users of the SZB. We also often call upon each other’s assistance throughout the night. Meet the Team |
